So, that's what all the fuss was about...
I went to Prive for the first time EVER last night. I know, right? I'm only four years too late, but whatever... It never held much attraction to me for some reason so I was never compelled to go - although last night when we didn't have to pay cover, and got free drinks for the first hour, that was pretty awesome.
The free drinks and the easy admission was awesome. Beyond that it was... eh. Crowded, and Miami clubs have come a LOONG WAY since 2002 or 2003 when it opened. The place was probably amazing when it first opened, but I guess the Victor and Karu and Y and Suite/Snatch have spoiled me. It was okay inside, but not that cool. Opium downstairs looked cooler, but by the time we got down there it was so packed, you couldn't see anything...
Prive was still packed, but the crowd had changed from what I'm sure it was in the early days when Justin and Cameron and Shaq and the rest of the Miami people used to be there all the time. Now they're at Mokai and Prive is... well, last night it was overrun with ugly people.
SERIOUSLY ugly people. I was shocked. Also, everyone working there seemed tired and apathetic, like they had been at it for too long and they wanted the place to burn down. Nothing bad happened to me there (except I almost puked from drinking for the first time in YEARS because I was sucking down the booze like it was going out of style again) so there's no underlying cause for my disenchantment, it was just... built up to be something different in my mind.
I'm glad I had finally seen it, because it was the one place I had never been to on the Beach, and now that's taken care of...but I don't think I need to go again. I'll leave Prive to the good people of Westchester and Hialeah, and the undergrads at UM, and I'll rally my troops back to the better places...

Not Westchester, New York. Westchester Miami.
